Terms of service

Last updated: 1 April 2026

About these terms

These terms describe the working agreement between you (the client) and Beth Counselling. You'll also receive a copy of a fuller counselling agreement before your first session, which we'll go through together.

Scope of service

Beth Counselling offers planned, ongoing online counselling for adults aged 18 and over who are resident in the United Kingdom. The service is not designed for crisis or emergency support. In a crisis please contact Samaritans on 116 123, NHS 111 (option 2), or 999.

Sessions

Sessions are 50 minutes long, delivered via a private and encrypted Zoom link, or by phone on request. You're responsible for finding a quiet, private space and a reliable internet connection. If we're disconnected, I'll attempt to reconnect twice before continuing by phone where possible.

Fees and payment

Fees are as published on the Services page. Payment is due by bank transfer or card no later than 24 hours before each session. Fees may be reviewed annually with at least one month's notice.

Cancellations

I ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, so the slot can be offered to someone else. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice, or missed without notice, are charged in full.

Confidentiality

What we discuss is confidential. The exceptions all BACP-registered counsellors are required to share are: serious risk of harm to you or someone else, certain safeguarding concerns, terrorism legislation, and lawful court orders. I'll talk you through this in your first session.

Clinical supervision

In line with BACP requirements, I discuss my work with a qualified clinical supervisor. This is always anonymised — your name and identifying details are never shared.

Ending therapy

You're free to end at any time. Where possible, I encourage a planned ending session, which can be a valuable part of the work. If I'm unable to continue working with you for any reason, I'll discuss it with you in good time and help you find appropriate alternative support.

Complaints

I take feedback seriously. If something isn't working for you, please talk to me first. If we're unable to resolve it, you can contact the BACP via bacp.co.uk.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
